Good morning! :smile Is the week going fast or slow for you? :huh I'm starting to realize that I need to get some organization going about our Aruba trip... it'll be here before I know it. :eek

We're still enjoying great weather. Karen, I thought I saw Matt here yesterday, it was a guy wearing shorts. :shutup

My sister in KY had a second back surgery yesterday, and apparently it went well. They took some bone from her pelvis to fuse a couple vertabrae, after first removing some bone in that back area to make room for nerves. Supposedly this will fix the problem she's had for quite some time. :fingers

Linda, how's the cold today? :huh

Today I'll be doing some errands, exercising, and doing laundry. At least, that's what's on my to do list so far... :hmm

See you later! :hug

Good Morning! :smile

Barb, that surgery sounds painful. I hope your sister makes a speedy recovery and finds herself without that back pain. :pray

We're having unseasonably warm weather, at least for today. We'll make it into the 70's. If I didn't have a cold, I'd probably try washing my car. I may still do that if it really does get that warm.

My cold seems to be better today. I've already arranged for a sub at the gift shop today so I don't need to worry about that. I may go to Curves this morning.

Rusty vomited some time during the night. No telling what he ate. :gaah

Have a great Wednesday! :hug

Happy Hump Day, everyone!!

MY OTHER day off for the week!!! I am hoping to get TWO SIDE trips completed but the main goal for the day is seeing Bond...James Bond this afternoon.

The calm before the retail storm at work. I have THURSDAY OFF next week. Surprise??? Then I am scheduled at 8AM on Friday. The scheduling guru at my store is a BUNNIE so I always try to state that she is doing a great job. I see the h-e-double week schedules that she ponders through and hear the riff raff that coincides. Trying to fill up a schedule with mostly parttimers...would be a daily headache.

My work story from yesterday....RIGHT AT THE END of my shift...A very nice beautiful Portuguese woman brings up two men's belts and wanted the INCHES converted to CENTIMETERS. So the math question for you today....How many centimeters equal 34 INCHES???

It has been AGES since I converted to metric and it took a few minutes for me to confirm that I was right in my conversion. How did I finally DOUBLE CHECK my work...another Asian woman came up to the desk and I point blank asked her.

I have been watching the MENTALIST on Tuesdays. I still need to watch NCIS and ATWT and will saving that for this evening....when WEDNESDAY Primetime has PrimeNothing for my to enjoy.

Keep having a great week everyone!!

Still cold here. It's 23 and forecast to go into the 40s BUT the temp will be dropping later today and the highs tomorrow are only supposed to be in the 20s. Brrrrrr!

Ali was really busy doing homework last night and finally gave up on her pre-calculus. One of the smartest girls in the class even texted her last night asking if she understood the assignment ... that's pretty scary! The teacher for the class is not very good. Her Algebra & Trig teacher was awesome and he used to teach pre-calc but had to add another section of Algebra, so this other teacher got the class. Ali said there are a lot of seniors dropping it at semester and taking another class. I told her if it's making her work suffer in other classes, I would be fine with that. She just needs to make sure it's not going to hurt her for college. She said she's actually learning more calculus in physics class than in pre-calc!

Mitch has been doing very well in b-ball practice at 6am. Craig says the JV coach already has his eye on him and three other 9th graders because he's losing five 10th graders to varsity.

Well, need to get to work. I hope every one has a good day.

CALCULUS.... :eek

It has always amazed me how individual students "switch gears" from algebra/trig/pre-calc/calculus....even the TEACHERS and the math departments from various high schools tend to create a CALCULUS COLLEGE student that does well or just falls flat.

I was one of the better small school math wizards and I still stumbled when it came to CALCULUS. Once I started college I entered the "Science oriented" Calculus instead of the "Business oriented" Calculus and even after collecting 3 THREE NOTEBOOKS of notes and formulas, etc....from my first Russian professor in Calculus....I was left in the dust with my attempts to do well in my first semester of Calculus in college.

Even when I repeated Calculus in college I still ended up with a C grade.

Thankfully I switched my majors from Physics to Computer Science so that my C grade in Calculus was acceptable in my Computer Science major.

Good morning!

Well, I'm going to be doing yet more laundry (sheets & towels today) and yet more cleaning. Yesterday, I cleaned a bit but remembered the 3 large zucchini ready to be used up so I baked - a LOT. I made zucchini muffins, zucchini bread and even tried a new recipe for a Chocolate Zucchini Cake. The muffins and bread came out great :eat :eat and we haven't tried the cake yet. I also have NOT told Mike or Nicholas that there's even zucchini in it :devil

Last night, Mike and I watched Monday's episode of "Chuck" and really liked it :2thumbs Mike figured out the ending before I would have had I not seen Roger's post yesterday. I kept my mouth shut during the show and enjoyed it nonetheless. I think Casey is my favorite - his "Hi C" :lol and "I wasn't hatched" lines still crack me up. :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

I was really tired by 11 so I shocked Mike by going to bed when he did. That is not to say that I actually went to sleep, however. I figured I'd do some reading, like usual, but I picked the wrong book. The book was fascinating to read and I couldn't put it down, so I ended up finishing it around 3AM :eek By this time, both Nicholas AND the cat had joined us, and I was wearing flannel PJs and as a result of ALL of this... I was hot and uncomfortable but still could not put the book down! :wacko :smack Mike woke up at 4:20, as usual, and I told him that, next time, he has my permission to grab whatever book I'm reading and smack my head with it :waiting The book? "Angels and Demons" - yes, the Dan Brown one. I finally got to it and, like "the DaVinci" code, I ended up reading it in one sitting.

So I was a bit slow and dopey this morning and after I'd filled Nicholas' lunch box, I put it back into the pantry instead of his backpack. :wacko Luckily, Nicholas noticed and mentioned it. Ooooops!!! Thank goodness I didn't serve him coffee instead of milk for breakfast....!

Barb, I'm vacationing vicariously through you - so start that packing!! :lol

Linda, I hope you and Rusty feel better. :hug

Quilts, that's great about Mitch :2thumbs As for Ali and that math class... I think you're right on target - if that class is negatively affecting her other classes, it may be best to drop the math class. I don't know how a college would look at it, though.

Flashy, the metric system is OK for me as long as I don't have to convert it to anything :wink Enjoy the Bond movie today!!

Calculus - I never thought I'd like it and I never intended to take so many courses of it in college. I did OK in pre-calc (with an awful teacher) and did terrible in AP Calc in my Sr. year (even worse teacher). The AP exam was a joke and I got the same score that I would have if I'd only written down my name and the date correctly :waiting :gaah Then I got to college and had to take Calculus. Wow! What a difference the teacher made!! :2thumbs I did great in it and actually LIKED it :eek I ended up taking Calc I, Calc II, and Differential Equations (talk about making your head explode). Ultimately, I had a math minor to go with my Computer Science major. :2thumbs I really do think the difference were the teachers, in my case.

Have a great day everyone! The laundry is calling my name........

It was really cold this morning and a "rude" reminder of what's to come!! UGH!!!

I did see gas for 1.95 a gallon!! Which is good IMO.

Not really much going on around here. I am heading to the folks for dinner and might tag a hair cut before hand. It should be done before Thanksgiving.

Barb: I hope your sister end up OK. Like Anni, I'll vacation through your plans!!

Linda: Sorry to hear you still have that cold. I hope it goes away soon.

flashy: The answer to your question is 86.36 cm = 34". Maine DOT for a few years went metric, however all contractors and suppliers didn't. So I have a metric to standard conversion calculator. Needless to say the department is back to good ol' feet and inches. Enjoy Bond.

quilts: I think if Ali's work in her other classes suffers because of her calc I might be best for her to change.

Anni: I love a good zucchini bread!!
Ciao!

DING. DING. DING. DING. You are correct, Bill! Good job on the metric conversion. I was ready back in the 70s to convert to metric...but like alot of American issues...is sure has not happened.

Much like the Department of Energy was created to usher in the new independent clean sources of energy into the USofA.

Hi gang,

Late post for me. We had our monthly lunch meeting today. We switched up the menu and ordered from Arby's. Arby's now does catering platters and delivery. We had 2 platters of assorted wraps. Their wraps are really big so each one was cut in half. That way people could try more than one variety. We also ordered a platter of apple & cherry turnovers. They were fantastic. I picked up chips and sodas to complete our menu. Everyone loved it. :eat

My grandma used to make a delicious chocolate zucchini cake. It was my favorite cake of all time. It also had chocolate chips inside. She also make this fantastic frosting that was cooked on the stove top. It was very light and fluffy but not sweet. I miss that cake. I miss her! :cry

Quilts, I'm with Barb on the calculus. :fliplid

Linda, I'm glad you are feeling better. :clap

Flashy, I hope you got to see your movie. :2thumbs

Anni, what time should we come over for the zucchini party? :eat

Barb, good luck to your sister. Back pain and back surgery have got to be the worst. :cry

Bill, keep thinking warm thoughts. I'm still playing the lottery. Hawaii is in our future. :fingers
